TBR Thursday: The Last of August

TBR Thursday Layout

It only seems appropriate that after reviewing the first book A Study in Charlotte on Monday, that my next TBR pick would be the second book The Last of August.  Sometimes I’m a bit slow in keeping up with a series.  I often get distracted by other books and then too much time goes by between books and I lose the plot along the way.  Having read the summary of The Last of August I don’t think I can afford to not read the book soon. It seems to take place immediately after A Study in Charlotte and I’m excited to see where Brittany Cavallaro takes Jamie and Charlotte next.

TBR Thursday: The Fallen Kingdom

TBR Thursday (2)

In my favorite reads of 2016, I mentioned that books one and two in The Falconer Trilogy were my #1 favorites. Well, I have been anticipating the release of The Fallen Kingdom ever since I finished The Vanishing Throne last winter. And trust me I feel like this has been a long wait.  It releases on June 13th and I’ve already pre-ordered it, so I expect to find it in my mailbox next Monday.  Though I’ll have wait a bit to read it since I’ve started two new classes this past Monday and they are already taking up all my valuable reading time. Oh well, I suppose that’s a first world problem for you.

Are any of you anticipating a new release this summer?

Happy Reading,

Meghan

P.S. I’m testing out creating my own graphics for the blog. I’m working on a new format since I didn’t really know what to expect when I started The Book of Meghan last year and wanted to give my blog a much needed makeover. So you may notice some changes over the next few weeks.

TBR Thursday: Adulthood is a Myth

25855506

I was first introduced to Sarah Andersen’s comic through Tumblr like I sure 99.9% of people were. I really like this comic because I relate to it pretty well.  And as I decided to chose this book for my TBR Thursday I noticed it’s currently only $4.99 on kindle, and had to weep a little because sadly I had to put myself on a book-buying ban for the the entire month of May. Boooo!

But the book bans probably a good idea for me because I have the problem of buying a book and not reading it. And I’m getting bad about looking at my overflowing bookshelf and claiming I have nothing to read! It’s like owning too much clothes and saying I have nothing to wear, which I have that problem too. So basically I’m the girl with nothing to read and nothing to wear while violently trying to stuff another book in my bookcase while squeaking into my tightly packed closest. Oh my first world problems!

Anyway I’d love to read all the comics in Adulthood is a Myth but it will have wait 26 more days. Not that I’m counting.

TBR Thursday: A Tree Grows in Brooklynn

5487030

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn has been sitting in my Kindle Library for a couple of years now. And if I’m honest, I often forget I own this book until I see it on my want to read list on Goodreads.  I figured if I made it a post on my TBR Thursday tag then that might persuade me to read it sooner.  Instead what I find myself wanting to do is create a list of all the classics I need to read or reread at some point.  So I’m adding to my TBR list rather than making it shorter, but I’ll make sure to place A Tree Grows in Brooklyn on the top.

Anyone have any classic books they love that they would like to suggest for my list? I’d love to read them in the comments below.

Happy Reading,

Meghan

TBR Thursday: Flame in the Mist

23308087

I’ve been trying to get out of my comfort zone of what I read.  So for 2017 I’m trying to read books that I normally wouldn’t gravitate too and that is what has lead me to adding Flame in the Mist. The book is described as Mulan meets Throne of Glass and the setting of the book takes place in Japan, I figure that I’ve never read anything like that before so why not add Flame in the Mist to my ever growing list (Hey that rhymed!).

Plus I’m a sucker for a pretty covers and this book’s cover is stunning. The flaming bird on the front would make me pick this up alone without needing to read the summary first. Of course I’ll have to wait a few more weeks for this book as it doesn’t come out until May 16, 2017, but I’m sure it will be worth it.

Happy Reading,

TBR Thursday: Cravings

25982685

One of my goals in 2017 is to try a new recipe at least once a week and I felt that a new cookbook would help to accomplish it.  I have heard a lot of good things about Cravings by Chrissy Teigen and while I don’t know much about the author of this cookbook other than she’s married to John Legend and she’s also on Lip Sync Battle, I can genuinely say I’m not interested in purchasing this cookbook because of the celebrity behind the book.

I haven’t bought Cravings yet I’m going to pick it up on my next trip to the book store. If any of you have tried a recipe out of this cookbook let me know in the comments if you liked it and what recipe was your favorite.  Perhaps I’ll even share on the blog how one the recipes turns out for me.

TBR Thursday: Yes Please

20910157

If you want to know my sense of humor watch anything with Amy Poehler or Tina Fey in it and that will pretty much let you know. I have especially had a growing appreciation for Amy Poehler ever sense I watched Parks and Rec, if you haven’t watched this show on Netflix yet you are doing yourself a disservice (in my humble opinion). But if you have watched this show and loved it then you will understand my appreciation for Amy Poehler (which is just a nicer way of saying I have a mild obsession of Amy Poehler).

I’m sure this book is better as an audible book as Amy reads it herself. I know that when I listened to Tina Fey’s Bossypants her narration of the story made it better. I can’t wait to get around the reading/listening to Yes Please, I’m sure it will make a great listen for all the road trips I’ll be doing this holiday season.

Happy Reading,
